Guiding Light

Recovery is a journey of self-discovery, healing, and transformation. It's a path that demands resilience, courage, and a willingness to change. Many individuals find solace and strength in embracing spiritual principles.

When I was strongly encouraged to build a relationship with my Higher Power, I’ll tell you right now, it sounded like complete nonsense to me. I was certain God was not the answer to my problems. It had seemed He had not been doing a very good job with helping me sort things out so far, so why would now be any different?

My perspective started to change, when I realized that my answers were no longer working. I came to find out that I didn’t know everything. I know, weird. I found myself turning to God when I felt at the end of my rope and when I felt like I had no where else to go. Alright God if you’re real tell me what to do here. Help me get through this…

And every single time, He came through.

One of the cornerstones of recovery, is finding purpose and meaning in life. Spirituality often provides the answers to the questions that haunt us during challenging times. It can help you connect with a higher power, discover your life's purpose, and find deeper meaning in your journey.

God made sure I couldn’t call on nobody but him this season.

Following daily meditations, reading God's word, daily devotionals, prayer, and focusing on spiritual principles as a whole has been the most beneficial and rewarding piece of my recovery. Through every fear and tribulation, God made sure He was the only one I could call upon at those times.

It was through building my faith, that I gained strength in certain areas of my life that I never quite thought that I would. With self-discipline, willingness to surrender, and trust that God has far bigger plans for me, I was able to build a solid foundation for the rest of my life.

Since reestablishing my faith, and making a conscience effort to continuously keep building it, I have been able to face obstacles with a completely different mindset, and without a sense of defeat.

Things might not be great all the time, but He promises in the end they always will be. I have found it extremely helpful to show gratitude, even in the most troubling of times. Seeking out our blessings can help void out all the rest.

Spiritual principles, such as forgiveness, compassion, and gratitude, can be powerful tools for emotional healing. They guide us in letting go of past resentments, fostering empathy for ourselves and others, and cultivating a sense of gratitude even in difficult circumstances.

This emotional resilience can be a vital asset in recovery. Spiritual guidance provides an inner strength that can help you weather the storms of life. It offers a sense of peace, a source of hope, and the knowledge that you're not alone in your struggles. This inner strength can carry you through some of the toughest moments in your recovery journey.

Grace carried me here and by grace I will carry on.

In the process of recovery, self-doubt and negativity can be major obstacles. Spiritual principles encourage positive thinking, self-acceptance, and the belief that change, and growth is possible. This mindset shift can be a game-changer.

faith quotes

Spirituality often leads to a sense of connection with others who share similar beliefs and values. This sense of community can be a valuable support system in recovery. You'll find people who understand your struggles and can offer guidance and encouragement. I refer to these people as my “star squad.” They are those who I consider my close friends or acquaintances that bring forth and encourage positivity, offer genuine support, and contribute to my growth. I strongly encourage you to establish your very own, if you don’t have them already.

As much as I would like to convince myself that I’m invincible and that I can face life’s hurtles all on my own, I’d only be fooling myself. It’s super important to establish these meaningful connections. They have been of the greatest use and service to me during both good and bad times throughout my recovery. I’m sure you will see them work miracles in your life as well, if you put in the effort to establish them.

Spiritual practices often involve mindfulness and being present in the moment. This can help you stay grounded, reduce anxiety, and make better choices in the present. It's a powerful tool for staying on track in your recovery.

Embracing spiritual principles isn't just a temporary solution; it's a lifelong commitment. These principles can guide you through the ups and downs of life and offer a continuous source of inspiration and guidance.

Incorporating spiritual principles into your recovery journey is a deeply personal choice. It's about finding what resonates with you and aligns with your beliefs.

Whether you follow a specific religious tradition or simply seek a broader sense of spirituality, the importance of embracing these principles lies in the transformative power they offer.

They can light your path, provide strength in moments of weakness, and ultimately lead you to a healthier, more fulfilling life in recovery. Remember, you are never alone on this journey, and there is always a guiding light to follow.
